Call for etnographic films
The Call for Films closed at 23:59 GMT on 2 December 2024.
Film Programme: Navigating Critical Junctions
The call for ethnographic films is now closed.
In alignment with the ASA2025 conference theme “Critical Junctions: Anthropology on the Move”, we invite submissions for ethnographic films exploring intersections, movements, and transformations in anthropological research and human experiences.
We welcome films that visualize the entanglement of routes in contemporary societies and that explore social, political, economic, and environmental movements through an anthropological lens.
We are particularly interested in movies that demonstrate innovative approaches to ethnographic filmmaking, from scriptwriting to editing and dissemination, and encourage submissions that experiment with cinematic practices to inspire original forms of anthropological research and map new possibilities for the discipline through visual media.

All films must be:
- Completed after 1 January 2022
- In original language(s) with English subtitles
While all lengths are accepted, priority will be given to short and medium films (30 minutes maximum).

Submissions
The call for ethnographic films is now closed. Submissions could be made via the online form previously linked to this page.
On submission of a proposal, all authors should have received an automated email confirming receipt/their role. If you did not receive this email, please first check the login environment via the link in the toolbar above, to see if your proposal is there. If it is, it simply means your confirmation email got spammed/lost; if it is not, we did not receive your proposal, as for some reason the process was not completed. Co-authors can be added or removed, but film proposals cannot be withdrawn by the proposers themselves – for that, please email conference(at)theasa.org
Proposals will be marked as pending in the login environment until the end of the review period, 3 February 2025. Selected films will be announced on 3 February 2025, all filmmakers who submitted their work will be contacted via email.
Useful information for later in this process
Editing your proposal
