How much do we really know about our parents’ lives? What secrets lie in plain sight? This new book is a compelling story of love, loyalty and deceit within a small circle of some of the most acclaimed anthropologists of the 20th century. It tells of Rosemary Firth’s life and relationships from the 1930s, through the Second World War to the end of the century. It is a story of passion and commitment, and includes the inexplicable disappearance and death of Rosemary’s very close friend, and the trial of her friend’s husband for murder. The book is written by Rosemary’s son and the daughter of Reith Lecturer Edmund Leach, the man whom Rosemary loved all her life alongside her husband Raymond Firth.
